The Electrician Apprentice will work under a Journeyperson Electrician and will be indentured to Trades North. Apprentices work 10 months and will attend technical training for 2 months in Prince Albert. As per LLRIB Personnel Policy, apprentices must sign an Apprenticeship Agreement. Apprentices receive full pay when periodically relocating for in-class technical training.
The suitable candidate will be able to perform the following duties:
- Read and interpret drawings, circuit diagrams and electrical code specifications to determine wiring layouts for new or existing installations;
- Test continuity of circuits using testing equipment to ensure compatibility and safety of systems, following installation, replacement or repair;
- Troubleshoot and isolate faults in electrical and electronic systems and remove and replace faulty components;
- Connect electrical power to heating and cooling systems;
- Install, replace and repair lighting fixtures and electrical control and distribution equipment;
- Maintain positive public relations on behalf of the department;
- Require to be on-call according to the schedule (The on-call schedule is a weekly rotation.)
- Perform other work related duties as requested by a supervisor
The suitable candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- Preference will be given to those with a minimum Grade 12 diploma, Adult 12 or GED 12 (candidates without completion of high school may require an assessment of qualifications before hiring);
- Demonstrated proficiency in high school senior (30 level) math and sciences;
- Must possess a valid Class 5 Driver's License
- Must be self directed, highly motivated and a team player;
- Be able to work under the direction of a supervisor;
- Must have a good work ethic;
