There is a requirement for a radar computer engineer within the Canadian SuperDARN program. The main duties will include both hardware and software aspects for the development and maintenance of the Radar Operating System (ROS), the SuperDARN data analysis and diagnostic software, and SuperDARN Canada's web presence. The individual will be required to develop a thorough understanding of the various systems currently being used in the remotely operated radar systems. The individual will be required to identify and prioritise potential development areas and must be able to communicate technical details to the stakeholders. The individual must also be able to offer creative solutions, including complete and workable deliverables, while working both independently and within a team environment. Multitasking will be required to provide support in a diverse project environment, while maintaining an organised program.
The successful candidate will hold a degree in one of the following disciplines: engineering physics, physics, computer engineering, or electrical engineering. Computer science degree holders with hardware experience will also be considered. Skills in some or all of the followings areas are required: C programming, data analysis software (such as IDL), python, shell scripting, and web programming. The candidate must have an advanced knowledge of UNIX-based computer operating systems and experience interfacing software and hardware.
Advantages
Experience with low-level C programming, the ability to develop device drivers, and a knowledge of IT infrastructure are of advantage to the candidate.
