Reports to the Research Scientist - Engineering and is responsible for carrying out the day-to-day activities necessary for the successful implementation of all research activities within the Engineering Research Program.
The work requires both mental and physical abilities, including participation in developing experimental protocols, fabrication and assembly of experimental set-up, installation and operation of electronic data monitoring systems, and day-to-day care for animals on experiment.
EDUCATION
A post-secondary degree in technological sciences or related field is desirable. Minimum requirement is post-secondary diploma (or its equivalent) in Engineering Technology related to agriculture, environment, instrumentation, or electronics.
EXPERIENCE
Preferably with at least 6 months experience in a similar type of position. Any experience with swine production or working with large animals would be an asset.
SKILLS / QUALIFICATIONS
Essential qualifications include good working knowledge of controller systems, electronic sensors, analytical and testing equipment, and good computer skills. Must be able to learn to properly operate and maintain existing and new research equipment such as fan and heater systems, PLC and HVAC controllers and relays, thermocouples and humidity sensors, dataloggers, and gas analyzer systems. Must have demonstrated ability to learn and follow strict research protocols, and carry out tasks with minimal supervision. Solid work ethic, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to organize, prioritize, and plan work schedules accordingly are essential to the position. A valid driving license is also needed. Personal interest in electronic technologies and/or similar applications, and genuine affinity for animals in general will be desirable.
