Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Family Worker will provide counselling, guidance, support, encouragement and direction to individuals and families primarily of Aboriginal ancestry who are experiencing problems relating to: Harmony of the family unit and Social Problems encountered in an urban setting.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Family Worker will:
- Work primarily with Kinship Clients referred by the Ministry of Social Services (Family Services Branch) in providing the support required to help them cope and maintain caring for children, gather Personal Intake information for each referred "Kinship", "Walk-in" or referred client(s) and create a confidential digital and paper file for each on-going case.
- Set up a plan of action with clients and assist them in working toward becoming self-sufficient and responsible individuals.
- Provide individual and family counselling to clients geared toward an efficient healing process.
- Organize and co-ordinate "Self-help" workshops.
- Follow up with "Home Visits" to monitor progress of clients.
- Act as liaison and advocate with Landlords, Social Services and other agencies.
- Maintain up-to-date list of referral agencies and make periodic contact with these agencies to ensure a good working relationship.
- Record statistical information on each client.
- Engage in the fundraising and community engagement activities hosted by the Friendship Centre
-Subject to criminal record and vulnerable persons check
Qualifications/Requirements:
- BSW or BISW preferred.
-Knowledge of Aboriginal languages an asset.
- Knowledge of Saskatoons Aboriginal Community Services and Supports is an asset
-Valid Driver's Licence and reliable vehicle.
