As direct support worker you will be responsible to assist the Night Home Manager with supporting 5 people with intellectual disabilities living in the home. The successful applicant will provide an environment that enriches the lives of people and encourages independence and choice.
The applicant must possess good communication skills, be able to work independently if needed, be organized, self-motivated, patient, and be able to respond effectively and appropriately in stressful situations.
Responsibilities include:
Assisting with some Personal care,responding to emergencies, managing and administering medications, meal planning and preparation, housekeeping and home maintenance, keep communication and log books accurate and current, attend regularly scheduled meetings, possible training of other supports, communicating effectively with the people in the home, families, management and other support service representatives.
Qualifications:
Preference will be given to applicants that have related post-secondary education and/or previous related work experience in supporting people with disabilities in a person centered way. Applicants must have a drivers license and able to pass a security clearance for insurance.
A clear criminal record with a clear vulnerable sector search is required prior to employment offer.
