The Lac La Ronge Indian Band-Health Services Department is now inviting applications for a 1 Term Full Time Tobacco Cessation Educator for the community of La Ronge. The ideal candidate is responsible for providing leadership, coordination and implementation of all the components of the Tobacco Control Strategy (TCS) Pilot Project. The TCS is a comprehensive strategy aimed at reducing tobacco use among community members and includes the following components: 1. Protection (Policy Development) 2. Reducing Access to Commercial Tobacco Use 3. Prevention 4. Education.
Key Skills Required:
-Ability to work independently as well as a member of a team
-First Nation community and cultural knowledge, in particular related to traditional tobacco use
-Community engagement/Community capacity building
-Ability to work with all ages, with a focus on youth, elders and community leadership
-Problem solving abilities
-Knowledge of the differences between commercial and traditional tobacco.
-Communication skills ? written, oral and computer skills
-Experience in facilitating groups, public speaking, presentations; and writing reports.
Qualifications:
-Health Promotion Certification; and/or Health Care Administration; and /or Business Administration; and/or Social Work; with 5 year?s work experience preferable in Health Promotion, Social Determinants of Health, Policy Development, and Community Engagement.
-Non-smoker preferred.
-Experience working with First Nations communities including leadership.
-Ability to speak/understand Cree and/or knowledge of Cree Culture is an asset;
-Criminal Record/Child Abuse Record Checks & Drivers Abstract is required upon hire;
-Valid Class 5 Driver's License is required
