The Saskatchewan Medical Association (SMA) is a continuous quality improvement organization always adapting to provide better services and better working conditions for physicians in Saskatchewan.
We recognize the unique difficulties for physicians serving patients in rural and remote communities. For over thirty years, we have provided a service to rural physicians to have time off for family, vacations, and CME.
The SMA Rural Relief program provides locum physician services for periods of between four days and two weeks per month to hosts in towns with less than five physicians.
Locum work with the SMA involves working in a variety of practice and community settings.
SMA locum physicians enjoy the following benefits:
Live wherever you like to live in Saskatchewan
Clear assignments with advance planning completed by the SMA
Work is scheduled around the availability of the locum physician
Locum income is determined by the amount of service days locums choose to work
There is such a demand for services that SMA locums can work as much as they like
All billing, invoicing and paperwork is taken care of in advance by the SMA
All working time is for seeing patients, practicing medicine, and travel
Friendly and helpful support staff at the SMA and in all host physician locations
Clean, safe and amenable accommodation in host communities
No overheads, no staffing issues
Pay for travel days and mileage
Annual earnings for a locum physician working an average of 14 clinic days per month with bonuses start at $237,000 per year
Part time locum opportunities exist for physicians who would like to work in different settings with extreme scheduling flexibility
This is a great opportunity for physicians who enjoy travelling, meeting new people and practicing in a variety of settings.
