The Exercise Therapist (ET) will work within the Home Care team to support the development of individual and group based physical activity programs aimed at reducing onset of lifestyle related conditions and their complications.
Primary Responsibilities:
1) Education related to physical activity and its role in diabetes self-management and self monitoring.
2) Assessment of client readiness to learn and take action related to physical activities using motivational interviewing techniques
3) Counselling for individualized exercise programs.
4) Assessment of health status and safety before initiating an exercise program.
5) Expert support for the development of community base activity programs targeted at high risk populations.
Degree in Kinesiology or Physiotherapy with the PFLC designation (Professional Fitness and Leadership Certification)
Work experience in programs such as First Step and Cardiac Rehab.
Extensive knowledge of the relationship of lifestyle and chronic health conditions.
A self starter with high energy and able to work independently with demonstrated planning and organization skills and experience.
Knowledge of health and social issues of First Nations communities
Ability to speak Cree is a definite asset.
Current drivers license essential
CPR and First Aid certification required or must be obtained on employment.
