Description

The Toxicology Centre at the University of Saskatchewan (U of S) has available a position of Research Associate/Laboratory Manager under the supervision of Profs. John P. Giesy, Ph.D., FRSC and Paul D. Jones, Ph.D.  The appointment will be a one-year term position with the option of renewal for a second or even third year, depending on performance and pending availability of funding.  The position will commence after January 1, 2015, but not after March 1, 2015.  The starting salary for a person with a Ph.D. and two years of experience will be $55,000/annum.  Efforts will be made to review performance on a semi-annual basis.  The continuation of this agreement (e.g., for a second and possibly third year) is dependent upon satisfactory performance and availability of funding.

DUTIES: Duties include overseeing and managing selected aspects of a multifaceted research program involving both graduate students, undergraduate students and technical staff.  This will include assisting with and overseeing daily activities for research projects utilizing the extensive analytical facilities being currently established at the Environmental Toxicology Laboratory in the Toxicology Centre of the University of Saskatchewan.  The larger research program includes the assessment of ecotoxicological hazards and risks associated with key contaminants and contaminant mixtures originating from global chemical industries including Canadian resource industries (e.g., manufacturing, oil sands, uranium mining), and the development of more complete understandings of contaminant movements, bioavailability and effects in the environment.  The successful applicant might also be asked to assist with other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
