Employees in this class are supervised by the YPL chief librarian. S/he relates laterally to all other staff at Yorkton Public Library and communicates with other library staff in the province. Employees in this class are given detailed instruction and training; then work with considerable independence. S/he provides direct service to the public at the reference desk. S/he is responsible for assisting library patrons in locating information. S/he performs varied and detailed work of a responsible nature requiring careful application and interpretation of library procedures. S/he interprets and applies Regional and SILS policies and procedures. S/he is required to exercise initiative in determining the sequence in which tasks are to be performed and the work methods employed. S/he oversees staff and manages the library in the chief librarians absence.
Requirements
Library technician diploma / certificate or a degree from a recognized university in an appropriate field
Excellent research skills
Strong customer service and troubleshooting skills
Computer literate, including effective working skills such as MS Word, Excel and e-mail
Able to use internet effectively
Proven data entry skills
Professional appearance and deportment
Ability to use office equipment such as photocopier, printer
Able to lift a box of books
Working knowledge of library filing and shelving rules
Ability to make presentations
Current awareness and knowledge of cultural and social trends.
Acceptable criminal record check
- Manage the library operations in the absence of the Chief Librarian
- Supervise pages
-Under the direction of the chief librarian, assist with scheduling and instruction of staff
- In the absence of the chief librarian, oversees staff and volunteers

- Collection development experience required
