Main Function:
Responsible to ensure that all technical aspects of designated research programs are accomplished.
Full Job Description
Demonstrates leadership, oversees safety and directs the activities of staff assigned to the research program.
Trains and directs the development of staff; supervises and manages performance with timely and appropriate feedback and review.
Plans and conducts the field testing of designated research material using defined methods that will ensure accuracy and optimize results under experimental protocol.
Conducts the mini-plot hybrid production nursery and breeder seed multiplication including: field design layout,operation and maintenance of irrigation equipment, planting, plot note taking, weed and pest control and seed harvest for breeding nurseries conducted by the company both inside and outside of flax and other Oilseeds.
Conducts herbicide screening trials and plant breeders rights traits under the direction of the breeders.
Conducts preliminary yield trial evaluations on experimental seeds including field design and planting and research throughout the growing, maturity and harvest.
Produces pure seed of designated lines.
Gathers, summarizes and inputs experimental data. Monitors results and checks for accuracy of information.

Skills/Experience
One (1) year of related experience including experience with small plot research.
B.Sc. in Agriculture. Eligible for membership in the provincial agrologists institute.

Excellent coordinating, communicating, and organization skills to deal with a number of staff and projects. Knowledge and experience with experimental design, data and statistical analysis. Knowledge of farm/lab inputs equipment and machine operation. Computer competent, with experience in the use of databases, spreadsheets and familiarity with specialized statistical software within a Windows based operating environment.
