In this role, you will develop cost estimates for construction projects through quantity take-off and assigning costs to materials, labour and equipment; as well as analyzing sub-trade quotations to ensure that every cost item required in a particular project is covered in full. The estimator develops and executes the processes, standards, templates and databases used in the development of capital cost estimates and is responsible for accuracy of tender submissions.
Some of your day to day responsibilities will include:
Review bid contract documents, specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate;
Prepare estimates of probable costs of materials, labour and equipment for a construction project based on schematic drawings and specifications;
Obtains bids from vendors and subcontractors by specifying materials; identifying qualified subcontractors; negotiating price;
Participate in tender closing i.e., review of documents, compile proposal information, computes cost estimates on sub contracted work if required, cost out potential scope of work changes, costs out potential additional costs claims situations.
The ideal candidate a College or University Graduate Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Architecture, Applied Science, Construction Management, Building Technology or professional equivalent experiences such as a minimum 5 years proven construction estimating preparing estimates and lump sum tenders, for institutional, commercial, and industrial projects.
This role requires a self starter with the ability to work effectively in a diverse team environment or independently in the absence of supervision and possess good organizational and communication skills.
