Applications are invited for a temporary full-time Literacy Teacher with Prairie Valley School Division commencing as soon as possible and ending June 29, 2015. This position will be based out of the Education Centre in the RM of Sherwood with frequent and ongoing support in surrounding schools.
The role of a literacy teacher is to work with students and professional staff through explicit instruction and provide professional learning, coaching, modelling, and resource support in collaboration with the division literacy team as follows:
Provide intensive literacy instruction to students varying from early years to middle years
Utilize Response to Intervention (RTI) strategies to engage learners
Work with administrators and staff to develop school goals focused on literacy
Analyze data to ensure movement toward achieving division literacy goals
Assist teachers to reflect and act upon assessment data and plan instruction
Work collaboratively with school-based teams (teacher, administrators, teacher-librarian, student services team)
Work collaboratively with division literacy team to design and provide professional learning
Engage parents and community in literacy activities
Maintain a professional library of literacy materials and regularly participate in related professional learning.
Competencies:
Demonstrate excellence in classroom instruction
Highly qualified in the areas of literacy learning and language development
Highly familiar with Fountas & Pinnel and Levelled Literacy Intervention (LLI)
Demonstrate leadership in professional learning including excellent presentation skills
Possess excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
Demonstrate excellent collaboration skills
Self-starter, flexible.
