Description

Saskatchewan Blue Cross, is currently recruiting for a temporary Full Time Underwriter in the Underwriting Department located in our Saskatoon Office.  

Reporting to the Director of Underwriting, the successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing and evaluating group employee benefit insurance applications within the group health, life, & disability income areas. This position supports the sales effort through the accurate and efficient assessment of both prospective & existing group employee benefit plans.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
-Assess risk for group life, disability, health & dental business
-Analyze & determine rates for group health, life & income replacement benefits for new & existing group business
-Adhere to established underwriting standards, guidelines & procedures
-Work closely with the Sales team to support corporate sales & business objectives
-Prepare and maintain renewals, revisions, quotations & all subsequent closure documentation as required

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
=Bachelors Degree (preference will be given to mathematical sciences, commerce or a related field)& previous experience in a similar role or an equivalent combination of training & experience
-Previous experience in the insurance industry, or with underwriting group health & life benefits would be considered a definite asset
-Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word & Excel with an ability to easily learn new software programs
-Ability to work effectively with others in a team environment
-Strong mathematical and analytical ability
-Demonstrated professional interpersonal & communication skills, both written & verbal
-Demonstrated ability to multi-task, handle shifting priorities & meet deadlines while maintaining strict confidentiality
