Description

-Looking for a male/female Community Outreach Worker to work with families on a one-on-one basis in their own homes in order to teach them positive parenting and coping skills that will help build independence.
- You will work in a team environment and assist families to improve their understanding of child development and needs.
-Help families develop safety plans to ensure their children are well cared for when the parent cannot meet their needs.
-Work with various professionals and support agencies to assist the family to meet their daily living, health, financial and social needs, therefore reducing the stress on families that can lead to child abuse and neglect.
-Teach families where to access community support networks, and to how to maintain those support networks once they are established.
-Help families to build independence by encouraging them in skills that allow them to work out their own solutions whenever possible.
Qualifications:
-Bachelor's degree in Social Work or related field of study and 2 years of training and extensive experience in working with individuals who have been involved in a high risk lifestyle.
-Knowledge and understanding of the history of Aboriginal peoples and their socio-economic backgrounds.
-An understanding of the barriers to healthy living that can contribute to higher risk for child abuse and neglect.
-Must possess and understanding of positive and culturally appropriate approaches to parenting.
-Awareness of the services and resources available within the community of Saskatoon.
-Must be comfortable working with and providing intensive supports to families within their own homes and in the core neighborhoods of Saskatoon.
-Willing and available to work non-traditional hours such as evenings and weekends.
-Criminal and vulnerable persons record check.
-Must possess a valid Class 5 driver's license and own a reliable vehicle.
-Must have a working knowledge of windows-based computer software programs.
