Description

Organizing Department  (Moose Jaw location), Full-Time, Permanent, Salary Range- $55,616 - $64,327/annum (Field Staff 1).

Essential Nature of the Work:  Working under the direction of the Organizing Director of SEIU-West, and under the guidance of the Lead Organizer, the Organizer represents and takes responsibility for the successful outcome of assigned SEIU-West organizing campaigns. The Organizer must demonstrate an understanding of the organizing and mobilizing model of trade unionism as well as all pertinent legislation. The Organizer must be able to work with members, staff and the Executive Board to implement the program set out by SEIU-West.  The Organizer performs a wide range of duties over irregular hours, which may vary according to location and duration as assigned by SEIU-West. Qualifications: Excellent written and oral communication skills.  Ability to work with an in-house database and web-based programs.  Ability to develop a strategic plan, identify targets, generate and implement campaigns.  Ability to self-manage and work independently under time pressures to meet stringent deadlines.  Ability to work with web based social networking platforms.  Knowledge of all relevant legislation, including provincial labour laws regarding organizing and certification.  Familiarity with labour union history, and politics. Willingness to travel and to work long and irregular hours including weekends and holidays. Experience with Social Justice Organizing is considered a benefit.  Ability to hold a valid Passport.  Possession of a valid drivers license and a reliable vehicle.  Ability to communicate in Tagalog, Hindi or Mandarin considered a benefit.
