Job Summary
Performs a variety of motor vehicle maintenance duties, including diagnosing, rebuilding, and repairing auto engines.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential duties satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned and may vary by location.
Troubleshoots defects, diagnoses malfunctions, and determines type and extent of repairs.
Maintains records of maintenance and repairs.
Overhauls and repairs chassis group units of one or more types of vehicles powered by internal combustion engines with standard and automatic transmissions
Rebuilds and replaces complex components such as engines, transmissions, differentials, axle assemblies, electronic fuel injection systems, emission control systems, power steering and braking mechanisms, cooling systems, wheel and bearings, and hydraulic and electrical systems.
Removes and repairs radiators, fuel tanks, carburetors and distributors, generators, spark plugs, and making idle adjustments.
Locates worn, dirty or poorly adjusted parts through visual checks or use of test equipment.
Makes adjustments such as setting distributor and voltage regulator points and gapping spark plugs.
Provides advice, training, and guidance to less senior maintenance staff members and approves duties and work performed by lower level and/or Unlicensed Mechanic staff.
Reviews and assists with warranty data, coverage, and recovery issues.
Performs other routine maintenance and repair tasks as instructed.
