Great Plains College is looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic instructor for our EAL program at the Rosetown Program Centre. The instructor will plan, organize and implement an instructional program of English for settlement, academic or work purposes for learners whose first language is not English. The position will also be responsible for the informal evaluation of learners including on-going progress assessment and short and long-term instructional planning (lesson and unit planning).
Duties include:
Plan and implement English Language instruction using CLB (Canadian Language Benchmarks) curriculum guidelines in a classroom setting, within a multi-level group-instruction setting
Incorporate Canadian cultural and settlement components into the curriculum and arrange for guest speakers and field trips
Implements student learning assessment tools that meet and follow the curriculum and College guidelines, standards and requirements.
Incorporates and connects references to life and cultural experiences to the subject material to enhance student comprehension and learning.
Qualifications:
The EAL Instructor should bring the following qualifications to this position:
- Bachelor of Education preferred; a combination of relevant university education and TESL training may be considered
- Excellent organization skills
- Knowledge of and experience in cross-cultural settings and willingness to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds
- Valid drivers license and willingness to travel
- Able to work independently
- Preference will be given to individuals who understand the principles of adult education
- Two or more years of recent-on-the-job experience in the skills or technical subject area
