Under the direction of the Fleet Services Supervisor, services & conducts minor maintenance of vehicular fleet & equipment of the Police Service.
(1)Washes, cleans & waxes the fleet & equipment.
(2)Performs service calls such as changing flat tires, boosting cars, etc.; assists police members in emergency situations; picks up property.
(3)Services vehicles including filling with gas, grease, change and/or add oil, check transmission, battery, tires, radiator, fan belt, etc.
(4)Carries out minor mechanical repairs such as replacing head lights, sealed beams, bulbs & fuses; & removes & replaces tires.
(5)Sweeps and/or washes garage floor parking garage, workshop & office & removes snow from garage entrances, as required.
(6)Monitors parking in police garage & parking lot & maintains security over police compound as required.
(7)Accepts & releases seized vehicles from the police garage, maintains vehicle & equipment servicing records such as oil change records & acts as messenger & chauffeur & assists mechanics with stripping vehicles for trade.
Competencies:
(1)Valid Class 5 Novice 1 (minimum) drivers license & knowledge of minor mechanical vehicle repair & servicing.
(2)Mechanical ability & the ability to use hand & power tools.
(3)Must possess the physical strength, mobility & flexibility to perform the duties of the position. Frequent lifting and/or carrying of heavy objects up to 100 lbs., or strenuous physical activity.
(4)Must be willing to work shifts on a rotating basis (days, evenings, nights and weekends).
THIS POSITION IS PART-TIME IN NATURE. IT WILL INVOLVE FILLING IN FOR OTHER MEMBERS ON VACATION, SICK DAYS, ETC. IT WILL INVOLVE BOTH PRE-SCHEDULED SHIFTS AS WELL AS SHORT NOTICE SHIFTS. INTERESTED APPLICANTS MUST BE WILLING & ABLE TO COVER ALL TYPES OF SHIFTS.
