Description

Southeast Newcomer Services is accepting applications for the position of Settlement Advisor.
Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Settlement Advisor's primary role is to welcome Newcomers to the Southeast Region and assist them in developing the personal tools and resources needed for success in Saskatchewan.  A collaborative, solutions focused and reflective approach when working with newcomers is the main focus.
Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Provide services within 7 days from the date of request for services at dates, times and locations that accommodate the needs of clients; this will require travel to different communities within the region
- Interview newcomers to obtain a case history and background information
- Assess clients' current situation and immediate settlement needs, such as immigration documents, shelter, food, clothing, health card, SIN application & driver's license

Qualifications:
- Respect and sensitivity to the needs of newcomers
- Knowledge of the community and the ability to identify and establish partnerships
- Ability to determine individual needs of a diverse group and provide required service/referral
- Demonstrated experience in the use of computer applications, specifically in the use of email, word processing, spreadsheet & web based applications.

Education/Experience:
- A certificate, diploma, or an undergraduate degree in a human services field of training such as psychology, social work, adult education or adult counseling, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- A min. of one year of demonstrated experience in working with a diverse newcomer population in a culturally sensitive manner
- Must be prepared to schedule hours of work according to the demands of the position  (evenings/weekends)
- Must possess a valid driver's license, reliable transportation and be willing to travel
- Must be bondable. A Police Record Check under vulnerable persons is required of all staff
