Description

The Consultant will provide support for RQHR's full-time media relations consultant in fulfilling these duties:  responding to media inquiries; supporting media events and scrums; preparing and distributing news releases and public announcements; providing an analysis of media coverage; delivering media training sessions to staff; monitoring media coverage, preparing and circulating a daily news round-up; coordinating third party filming; writing speeches; supporting special events as required; coordinating and/or preparing a year end video report; providing support to the Emergency Operations Centre as necessary; and developing promotional media around the Regions programs and services.

In addition, the individual will be expected to provide sound media advice to various internal stakeholders and act as support to a number of committees and public initiatives.

Qualifications:

The abilities for this position are typically obtained through a degree in journalism and subsequent experience as both a member of the working media and in a media relations role for at least three years.  Candidates with blended experience outside of this qualification may also be considered.

The consultant must be knowledgeable about the Regina area's media and the needs and demands of a media relations support role, particularly through experience in a large public sector organization.  The consultant must be able to manage events and announcements independently.  Sound judgment is required, and knowledge of RQHR and the province's health care system are assets which will be keenly sought.

Additional Information:

The is an out-of-scope position and may require work on evenings and weekends.  The consultant will also be required to share on-call communications duties with four other communication consultants on a rotating basis.  An equivalent combination of education and experience would be considered.
