The primary function of this position is to promote health and prevent health-related issues through learning-related activities that strive to increase awareness, change attitudes, build knowledge and enhance skills.
The Community-based Health Promotion and Prevention Worker will ensure the following components are being addressed:
-Mental Health/Crisis Intervention
-Child Development
-Parenting Skills
-Healthy Babies
-Injury Prevention
-Solvent Abuse
Duties and Responsibilities:
-Information and awareness activities relating to Mental Health, counselling services, wellness activities.
-Community based programming and activities
Parenting Programs and activities
-Pre and post natal programming and activities
-CPR, First Aid, water, fire and bicycle safety workshops, seat belt and car seat awareness campaigns and promotion
-Creating effective working relationships with other departments and agencies
-Promoting and implementing recommendations from the community and supervisor
-Prepare annual and quarterly reports and work plans as required
-Research and implement innovative and creative ways to engage community
-Create a communication method to ensure all of the community is aware of the health programming available
-training; planning; consultation and information exchange; promotion of linkages among health, children and families; and, comprehensive community projects.
-Activities include the provision of resource centres, infant stimulation programs, and behavioural and developmental counselling involving parents and children.
-Activities targeted at preventing injury include: public education; training of community workers; knowledge development; and, assisting communities to develop appropriate by-laws/regulations.
-Other related duties may be assigned from time to time.
