CORE RESPONSIBILITY:
Provides direct support to Day Program participants in the community in a manner consistent with Person-Centered Plans and the Councils Values
Duties include:
- Responsible for organizing and facilitating community events, recreation and leisure activities, and volunteer opportunities on a group and individual basis for participants of the Day Program
- Uses opportunities in the community to teach: budget conscious decision making; social skills; practicing manners; use of personal space and proximity; stranger safety; situational appropriate appearance
- Conducts community tours to promote use of community resources and actively participates in all outings
- Researches community events and assists Community Program Coordinator in developing the monthly daytime community-based calendar
- Researches, organizes, and facilitates Evening Life Enrichment opportunities two evenings per week within a flex-time scheduleensuring a 37.5 hour work week
- Maintains participant documentation, according to agency standards
- Takes initiative to de-escalate participant behaviors, provides supportive assistance for the physical/emotional well-being of participants, and ensures participant safety at all times
- Provides personal hygiene care as required
Qualifications:
Education:
- Rehabilitation Worker Certificate, Recreation Therapy Certificate, Life Skills Coach, Special Care Aide and/or related training and work experience
- First Aid and CPR Certification or willingness to obtain
- Valid Class 5 Drivers License and access to personal vehicle to use for course of work
- Must be able to work all shifts: days, weekends, and evenings
Skills:
- Knowledge of/and ability to work with individuals with multiple barriers, disabilities, and challenging behaviours
