Indian Residential School Resolution Health Support Worker
General Description:
Under the direction of the Executive Director of the Saskatoon Indian and Metis Friendship Centre, the IRS Resolution Health Support Worker will provide counselling, guidance and direction, primarily to individuals and families of aboriginal ancestory who are experiencing social problems associated with the effects of Indian Residential School.
Duties:
Advocate and liaison for claimants with lawyers, adjudicators, government representatives, Elders, family members, and those involved in hearing.
Initiate and maintain communication with claimant prior to hearing, during hearing, and follow-up.
Refer claimants to Approved Mental Health Therapists- if possible, prior to hearing
Maintain communication with Health Canada Representatives and lawyers prior to hearings for transportation, accommodation, and meals for claimants hearing.
Connect/maintain communication with lawyers for IAP (Individual Assessment Process) interviews and claimants.
Connect/maintain communication with communities for IAP interviews and claims.
Conduct community needs assessments prior to IAP interviews and claims within a community.
Connect/maintain communication with communities for CEP/IAP presentations and displays.
Understand basic emotional/physical triggers for abused victims and apply intervention.
Maintain a high standard of confidentiality regarding claimants personal information and hearings.
Provide transportation to/from hearing when required.
Qualifications/skills:
Post-Secondary education in Social Work, Sociology or a related field
Have a good understanding of the Indian Residential Resolution Health Support Program
Be able to develop, maintain, gather and analyze various statistics
Have some knowledge of various computer programs- Microsoft Word, Excel, etc
This position is for a 10 week term, covering for maternity leave.
