The Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan invites applications from qualified individuals for a senior Cisco Systems Research Chair in Mining Solutions. The successful candidate must hold an earned Ph.D. in electrical and/or computer engineering and also be eligible for registration as a professional engineer in Saskatchewan. Commensurate with qualifications and experience, the salary target, including stipend, will range from $150-190K. This position has a start date of March 1, 2015 (negotiable).
This is a tenured full professor position with reduced teaching and administration duties. The research thrust is cyber-physical systems. This involves developing algorithms and/or hardware that integrate sensors, networks, controls and computing with mining equipment to improve and support efficient, reliable and safe mining operations. While the research activity will not be confined to Saskatchewan problems, mining is one of three core drivers of the Saskatchewan economy, contributing about 3.5 per cent of the provinces GDP. The Chair will have an exceptional opportunity to maximize research collaboration with Cisco Systems as well as the many international mining companies located in Saskatchewan, most of which mine for potash, precious metals or uranium. Creation of the Chair recognizes and builds on the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineerings expertise in sensors, networks and communication.
