This exciting public health position with Northern Medical Services Division of the College of
Medicine is located within the Population Health Unit for the three northern Saskatchewan
health regions. The Population Health Unit, an innovative public health team, involves health
professionals in communicable disease control, epidemiology, environmental health, chronic
disease, health promotion, dental health education, and nutrition. This team supports the three
health regions through a co-managed approach in the predominately Aboriginal communities
across northern Saskatchewan.
The area is in beautiful northern Saskatchewan a boreal forest and lake area of excellent
recreational and cross-cultural opportunities.
Qualifications: Applicants must be licensed to practice medicine in the Province of
Saskatchewan, and a RCPSC Fellowship in Community Medicine (or equivalent) or Masters in
a public health related field is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and
experience may also be considered.
Duties: The Deputy MHO, working with the Chief MHO, will carry out the responsibilities and
duties of a MHO as specified by the Public Health Act and Regulations, including communicable
disease control, environmental health, disease and injury prevention, surveillance, health
protection and promotion. The relationship with the University of Saskatchewan, College of
Medicine, Departments of Family Medicine or Community Health and Epidemiology, or the
School of Public Health is encouraged and a cross-appointment with the University may be
considered.
Salary and Benefits: Commensurate with qualifications and experience along with a northern incentive.
