Four (4) Literacy Coaches are required to assist in building teachers capacities to meet the increasing literacy needs of the diverse learner in their classrooms. The intent is to provide common understandings and sets of effective researched based practices, within schools and between schools, which are consistent with WNCP, Saskatchewan Curriculum and the boards vision for literacy achievement.
The Literacy Coach support is part of an ongoing professional development process through which classroom teachers deepen their literacy understanding, instructional practice, and assessment strategies. The relationship between the Literacy Coach and classroom teachers is one of peer collaboration. These positions will support a number of schools out of the designated locations.
Qualifications:
Sask. Professional A Teaching Certificate
Successful teaching experience or training with Elementary/High School students;
An ability, experience and training in ELA/Reading
Extensive knowledge of teaching Reading/Literacy Communication practices at various grade levels
Practical knowledge of classroom practices outlined in Balanced Literacy Plan
Knowledge of adult learner needs
Extensive computer skills
Knowledge and belief in assessment For, Of and As Learning
Knowledge of PLCs
Collaborative and cooperative nature
Creative problem-solver
Skills in facilitation and presentation
Strong skills in building relationship with peers
Willing to travel and spend time as required
Ability to work without direct supervision
