Description

The Saskatchewan Railway Museum is now hiring for the position(s) of Historical Interpreter / Groundskeeper / Gift Shop Operator.
Term: 16 weeks (May 12, 2014 to September 1, 2014)
Location: The Saskatchewan Railway Museum is located five minutes west of Saskatoon on the Pike Lake Highway (#60).  Applicants must have a valid drivers licence and transportation to and from the museum site.

Qualifications: Tourism or Canadian History students with valid First Aid/CPR certificates are preferred.  Applicants must be able to multi-task among the three roles specified in job title.  Applicants must be able to work with minimal supervision and complete specified tasks by given deadline.  For grant purposes, students must be returning to post secondary studies in the fall and be under the age of thirty.

NOTE:  Additional criteria to be considered.  Students applying who have completed the first year and are entering the second year of the Practicum/Internship programme within the Recreation & Tourism Management programme at Kelsey Institute, will be looked at favourably when hiring decisions are made.  

Successful applicants will be expected to gain a working knowledge of the Saskatchewan Railway Museums site history, rolling stock, artifacts, and buildings related to Canadas railway and street railway heritage.  

Duties will include tour guiding, operating vintage museum equipment (motor cars and a VIA tractor), operating the Gift Shop (retail sales, admission ticket sales, inventory control and customer service), and general grounds maintenance (operating ride-on and push lawn mowers, line trimming, painting, and general cleaning duties).
