Description

The position of Legal Assistant reports to the Associate General Counsel and provides administrative legal support to the Legal Department, including maintaining and organizing the Department file system and library, updating legal publications and periodicals as required, coding and remitting invoices and completing travel planning and expense reports. In addition, the Legal Assistant provides administrative support for the day to day operation of the Corporations Compliance and Ethics Program, including preparing documents, management of compliance file system and assistance with the ethics and compliance training program. The Legal Assistant will also provide back-up and support to the Legal Administrator  Governance and Securities.The incumbent should have a 2 year technical diploma or degree or equivalent experience of 4-6 years in a senior administrative position. Experience in corporate ethics and compliance would be an asset. The position requires a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual with strong planning and organizational skills, and requires the highest degree of confidentiality, integrity and professionalism. The incumbent must demonstrate the ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects while meeting strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as initiative, decision making skills and an ability to work independently are required.  The position requires proficiency in a number of computer programs, including use of word-processing, accounting and data management applications, and various web-based and securities related programs.  The incumbent must have the ability to stay abreast of current and evolving processes related to the compliance and ethics functions within the Legal Department.  Additional education and professional development may be required and the incumbent must demonstrate ability and willingness to undergo additional training.
