The Kinistin Chief and Council recognizes that too many of our children in care are placed in foster homes outside the Kinistin Saulteaux Nation. Therefore the need to deliver a Prevention program that addresses and meets the unique needs of the people of Kinistin Saulteaux Nation is of vital importance. Emphasis falls on keeping our children safe and retaining them within the family and in the community. The Prevention Worker will be responsible for the implementation of the Kisawisowin Program using the Tikinagan Model of Child Care. Therefore, the Prevention Worker will work closely with the Kisawisowin Committee to focus on Prevention programming as a means to address and prevent child abuse and neglect.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1)Work cooperatively with Kinistin Chief and Council, Program Managers, and all frontline workers.
2)Promote the Kisawisowin program to community membership and provide continual support of the Community-Based Tikinagan Model of Childcare and family support.
3)Provide information, counselling and support services to families using the Community-Based Tikinagan model of childcare.
4)Refer reports of child abuse and neglect for investigation to the Protection Worker
5)In the event that apprehension is the only available recourse, ensure that communication occurs with appropriate leadership and key staff.
Qualifications:
1)Some post secondary training or relevant work experience with a Human Services designation preferred
2)Knowledge of case management, crisis intervention procedures, child protection, child-in-care services and protocols.
3)Must have a valid drivers license and reliable vehicle.
4)Must submit to a criminal record check (CPIC) and Vulnerable Sector Check
