Description

Working at our Mainroad Unit located near Rama, SK the Unit Manager is responsible for the overall operation of Olysky's nursery barn.

Responsibilities Include:
Provide direct supervision to all staff in the unit
Provide required administrative duties, including work schedules, production documentation, payroll timesheets, evaluations, etc.
Provide training, mentoring & delegation of work and guidance to all staff to ensure SOPs are followed and implemented; also responsible for employee disciplinary action
Ensure nursery targets are met in the unit
Coordinate movement of pigs throughout unit & loading/transport of animals
Ensure Biosecurity is followed by all employees and visitors/contract workers
Ensure Animal Well Being Code of Conduct is maintained and pigs are provided sufficient nutrition and water
Implement and monitor vaccination programs and monitor herd health
Coordinate maintenance in and outside of barn, including manure management, ventilation, feed systems, penning/slats, and general building maintenance
Coordinate yard upkeep and snow removal
Understand OH&S regulations associated with the Unit and promote the use of personal protective equipment, safe work procedures and company policies
Ensure incidents at unit are documented and reported
Respond to alarm call-outs at the unit
Order supplies as required
Be available to answer alarms at the unit and be available for emergency duties
Other duties as required

Skill requirements
- Certificate/Diploma in Animal Science or Veterinary Technology preferred
- 2 years experience in a hog barn preferred
Strong personnel management skills
- Strong motivational skills
- Adaptability to be responsible for a wide range of tasks
- Strong leadership skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Good time management
- A strong work ethic
- An empathetic nature towards animals
- Minimum basic computer skills
