Contango Strategies is looking to hire for a position of Research Technologist/Laboratory Manager. The appointment will be a Full-Time position, commencing as soon as possible with time split approximately 50/50 between working as a research technologist and laboratory manager.
DUTIES: As a research technologist, the successful candidate will assist in conducting experiments as outlined by their supervisor, including but not limited to various molecular laboratory techniques. The candidate is expected to follow SOPs and maintain excellent records. They will also help to develop and review new SOPs. As laboratory manager, the candidate will implement policies, procedures, and quality control practices needed in supporting and maintaining the facility. Maintenance of equipment such as repair, calibration, or general conservation of regularly used items is also expected. The candidate will keep a working inventory of equipment and consumables, and is also responsible for ordering and keeping regular contact with sales representatives from suppliers to obtain optimal pricing. They will monitor equipment usage and logbooks, and review staff laboratory research notebooks.
QUALIFICATIONS: The candidate must have a minimum education of a two-year biotechnology diploma (e.g., SIAST), or a B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree in a discipline related to Contangos core service areas, with a minimum of 2 years work experience. Excellent organization and written and verbal communication skills are essential. A working knowledge of Microsoft Excel is also required.
