Description

THE POSITION
Under the general supervision of the STC Health Centre on 20th Nurse Coordinator and with Clinical Supervision from the STC Community Addictions Program Coordinator, the Gambling Addictions Counsellor will promote the mental, emotional, and social health and well-being of clients and their families.  This will be done through counselling, treatment, referral, education, advocacy, community action, program leadership and connecting clients to appropriate cultural services and resources.

SCOPE OF PRACTICE:
All types of addiction assessment;
Individual, family and group counselling;
Crisis intervention;
After care referrals;
Prevention and Harm Reduction Programs;
Referral services;
Follow-up services

QUALIFICATIONS:
Preferably hold a post-secondary Degree in Social Sciences (preferably Social Work and/or Chemical Dependency) or possess equivalent work experience, training and education;
Must have Gambling Addiction Certificate;
Addiction assessment training;
Experience working with addictions, mental health and wellness issues in the clinically supervised direct service delivery capacity;
Training in a broad range of case management skills, including crisis and individual counselling.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide comprehensive addiction assessments;
Provide crisis and on-going counselling to clientele;
Refer clients to appropriate community agencies and services;
Maintain records and statistics in accordance with project evaluation and funding agreement standards;
Seek consultation and supervision as necessary;
