Working out of the Yellow Quill First Nation Health Centre office under the direction of the CFS Protection Supervisor, the Protection Worker is responsible for ensuring the protection/well being of children, case management, identifying parent and family supports, referrals, and performing child protection services duties for the STC member First Nations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
-Perform effective child protection and family support services including:
-Investigating reports of abuse and neglect;
-Providing counselling, support services and/or referral services;
-Work with families to develop plans to strengthen families;
-Develop a plan for each child and provide support to the caregivers and parents.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
BISW or BSW, CISW or CSW may be considered with relevant Human Service experience;
Knowledge of the FSIN Indian Child Welfare and Family Support Act and The Child and Family Services Act;
A minimum one year direct child protection experience or two year general child welfare experience
An understanding of the dynamics of First Nations family systems;
Knowledge of case management and crisis intervention procedures;
Knowledge of child protection and children in care services;
Knowledgeable of risk assessments and family assessment;
Working knowledge of computer software applications (MS Office, email);
Willingness to work flexible schedule of hours;
Must possess a valid Saskatchewan drivers license and meet STCs insurance requirements;
Must provide a current, original Canadian Criminal Record Check (CPIC) and Automated Child Abuse Record check at time of interview; and
Must be eligible to be registered with the Saskatchewan Association of Social Work Association.
