The Office of the Chief Coroner, Ministry of Justice, has a challenging opportunity for a confident, highly motivated and well-organized professional who is capable of working in a fast-paced, demanding and high volume work environment. Reporting to the Supervisor of Administrative Support, you will provide administrative support to the southern coroners and to the Office of the Chief Coroner Headquarters staff.
You will respond using medical and legal terminology to inquiries made in writing, in person or by telephone from lay coroners, members of the public, RCMP, municipal police services, various government agencies and stakeholders such as funeral homes, transport services, lawyers and health professionals. This includes speaking directly with family members of the deceased who may be frustrated, angry, upset, grieving or distraught.
Your responsibilities will include drafting, formatting and proofreading a variety of correspondence and legal documents, creating and updating spreadsheets, aiding Headquarters staff in the preparation of Power Point presentations, maintaining paper and electronic filing systems and coding, verifying and reconciling invoices and expense claims and entering them into the Coroner's Production database. In addition, you will provide a wide variety of complex administrative duties in order to independently organize, plan, schedule and coordinate all aspects of inquests (judicial process) conducted by the Office of the Chief Coroner.
