The Nurse Practitioner (NP) works collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary health care team to provide primary health care services. The NP assesses patients, diagnoses, and treats uncomplicated episodic illnesses, screens for and monitors common chronic diseases. The NP is the medical case coordinator for refugees arriving in Regina.
Qualifications
Bachelor or Master's Degree in Nursing
Advanced Primary Care Nurse Certificate or Nursing Practitioner Diploma
Registered Nurse (NP) with the Saskatchewan Registered Nursing Association
Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Certificate
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Intermediate computer skills
Interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
Ability to work independently and be a team player
Advanced nursing knowledge of primary health care that emphasizes client-centered, holistic care, health promotion, and disease prevention
Understanding of and a sensitivity towards diverse ethnic and cultural groups
Knowledge of community services and agencies
Self-motivated
Sound clinical judgement and diagnostic reasoning skills to be able to synthesize health assessment information to identity a health problem or make a medical diagnosis
Knowledge and ability to apply the principles of pathophysiology, including etiology, developmental, pathogenesis and clinical manifestations of commonly encountered acute and chronic illness and injuries
Knowledge of medical conditions and diseases common to different immigrant and refugee populations, e.g., malaria, Strongyloides, G6PD deficiency, etc. (asset)
