Description
Reporting to the Secretary-Treasurer (CFO), the Controller is a team member and leader who will oversee the day-to-day accounting operations of the School Division. This full time position has responsibility to plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the operation of finance, accounts payable and payroll departments. This position will assist in development, implementation and monitoring of annual budgets as well as playing a lead role in the annual audit and financial reporting cycle of the school division. The successful candidate is a key player in the management of the financial affairs of Chinook.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES:
-A professional accounting designation (CA, CGA, CMA) coupled with an Undergraduate Degree in Business Administration, Commerce or equivalent
-Demonstrated success in a similar role or significant experience supporting a similar role in an organization with a large budget (Approx $80M) and staff complement (Approx 1200 FTE)
-Minimum of 5 years experience in a senior accounting or finance position combined with a minimum 3 years direct supervisory experience
-Superior written, oral communication and inter-personal relationship skills
-Strong knowledge of current accounting standards and practices including experience with all relevant legislation and regulations governing accounting in a public sector or educational institution
-Significant technological literacy combined with knowledge of accounting software applications and systems
-Knowledge of performance and enterprise risk management combined with demonstrated success in change management processes
-Knowledge of the pre-k to 12 education sector is an asset
-Knowledge of Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy provisions
-Knowledge of human resources management and general organizational operations
