Under the direction of the Principal and LRT Coordinator, the Education Assistant aids in the preparation and presentation of programs; assesses and reports on student progress; supervises student(s) and performs a variety of tasks which are supportive of program delivery.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will:
Grade 12 Diploma or ABE
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently
Provide a clean CPIC (criminal record check).
Possess a strong work ethic, and be dependable and reliable
The Education Assistant shall:
Assists in the preparation of instructional aides, worksheets and educational games by drawing, cutting, laminating, duplicating, typing and similar activities on the behalf of teachers, during non-instructional time.
Under teacher supervision, observes learning activities and may assist and/or evaluate progress in various life skill activities.
Monitors, observes, discusses, and reports student progress with teachers and, when required, participates in TEAM meetings regarding student progress as well as parent teacher interviews.
Under teacher and special education supervision, modifies classroom and curriculum materials to meet student(s) needs as directed.
Implements behavior modification techniques, problem solving and assists with general classroom management. Assists with assessment of student progress by compiling information regarding behavior and recording individual progress (e.g. journals and observations sheets), as required;
Assists student(s) in developing problems solving, socialization and peer interaction skills.
Tutors and assists student(s) with academic work.
