Description

LSS is seeking a part-time seasonal Livestock Inspector to join our team in the South Central District. This position is headquartered in Weyburn and the ideal candidate will live within reasonable proximity. The successful candidate must be able available to work as needed throughout the year  understanding that our workload aligns with the annual trade flow of the livestock industry and therefore work is seasonal.

Work weeks are flexible to meet auction market schedules and the irregular on-call demand of country work. Work hours are variable and overtime is required during peak inspection and data entry times.

Livestock Inspectors carry out inspection and investigative duties related to identifying ownership of livestock at auction markets, assembly stations, feedlots, and on farms and ranches. An Inspector is required to accurately count livestock and examine brands and other identifiers on the livestock  along with any relevant manifest, permit, bill of sale or other documentation  in order to determine rightful ownership of the livestock being presented. Inspectors will accurately record their inspection findings and enter data into LSS software. Inspectors will ensure compliance to Provincial regulations relating to the sale and transport of livestock  and will help interpret legislation and provide information to producers, dealers, agents, transporters and the general public. Inspectors will also assist RCMP Livestock Investigators on relevant cases and will provide assistance to other organizations and jurisdictions as required.

Requirements for this role:
- livestock handling skills and in-depth knowledge of livestock and their behaviors
- strong understanding of farm, ranch and feedlot operations, auction markets and assembly stations
- working knowledge of computers and adequate typing skills
- Class 5 drivers license and reliable vehicle
- communication and conflict management skills
- ability to work independently and meet deadlines
