Reporting to the Director, the cook is responsible for providing food that is nutritionally appropriate for young children, appealing, and supports the philosophy of the centre. The cook is responsible for:
1. Ordering of all groceries (while staying in the budget)
2. Strictly following the menu and ensuing it meets all nutritional requirements
3. Food preparation for 50+ people daily
4. Kitchen clean up/cleanliness
5. Maintaining safe and sanitary practices in food preparation and service
6. Working with caregivers to provide opportunities for children to learn about foods and assist in preparation
7. Working as a mentor with the Cook's Helper.
Must be versatile and willing to work in areas other than the kitchen (ie. substitute as a child care worker if an educator is absent.) MUST be reliable and flexible. MUST be able to lift a maximum of 50 LBS or stand for extended periods of time. Time management skills are a must along with the ability to work with others. Basic food preparation and nutrition knowledge is required.
