A Casual Library Assistant is responsible for providing full library services to the community they serve through the direction of Chinook Regional Library Headquarters and under the guidance of the branch librarian. Regular duties include but are not limited to: working professionally with patrons and other library staff, shelving, pulling books for pick-list, tracking statistics, and assisting patrons to locate or order books. This position may require you to fill-in for a childrens, family, or adult program if or when the librarian is away.
Qualifications
Grade 12 or equivalent
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Excellent organization and multitasking skills
Computer skills including Microsoft Office, and familiarity with Internet searching
Familiarity with the Chinook Regional Library website and the library circulation system is an asset
Understanding and appreciation of the philosophy of public library service to people of different ages and cultural backgrounds
Able to stand for periods of time, able to bend and shelve books, able to move library furniture as needed, able to lift boxes of books up to 15 kg.
Able to work with minimum supervision
Experience working with children and vulnerable populations
Current vulnerable sector criminal record check is required (upon hire)
