Description

MJMC is seeking an enthusiastic client centred Youth and Community Connections (YCC) Worker to join our team. The YCC Worker is responsible for promoting a welcome and inclusive community and support youth, families, and adults in community engagement.

The position requires the knowledge and awareness of challenges that are common to refugees and immigrants and the importance of social connections and what role they play in the settlement and integration process. It will require working with both the Community Connections Coordinator and the SWIS team to connect newcomers to the broader community and foster positive community/school interactions through the development of various activities and events that may include: mentorship programs, volunteer recruitment and engagement, workshops and social programming, and community/school awareness and engagement events.  This position will aim to guide the community/school in understanding the importance of integration and their role in the process as well as have a better understanding of newcomers needs, backgrounds and cultures.

The ideal candidate would demonstrate:
-Post-secondary degree in Human/Social/Youth Services, community relations, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
-Understanding and sensitivity to issues affecting immigrant and refugee communities
-Ability to work effectively with other service providers and community partners
-Amazing communication skills: written, verbal, and non-verbal
-Demonstrated cross cultural communication skills and knowledge of community resources
-Comfortable with database and other common computer applications
-Ability to carry out duties with a degree of independence
-Full Class 5 Driver's license and Abstract
-Criminal Record with Vulnerable Sector Check
-Fluency in additional languages is an asset
-Willing to work on evenings/weekends if needed
