The Senior Library Service Associate is responsible for supervising the duties related to the front-line public service in their work unit at the Saskatoon Public Library (SPL).
This position is responsible for all components of daily employee workflow and scheduling including assessing the need for additional call-in support. The Senior Library Service Associate is responsible for resolving employee and patron concerns in accordance with SPLs established guidelines. This position is accountable for ensuring compliance with SPLs policies and procedures.
The majority of the work of the Senior Library Service Associate involves the supervision of circulation. The Senior Library Service Associate participates in engaging the public to assist with public access to library services, as well as with Circulation Associate duties. The Senior Library Service Associate may work outside the branch at events in the community.
This position predominantly oversees work with the public at the branch or central library. This regularly involves working with people who attend the branch or central library for research, for access to services and collections, and people who work or live in the neighbourhood. The Senior Library Service Associate may also work with people who face barriers to library service, marginalization and/or social exclusion. Many of the most challenging situations their direct reports face may be elevated to the Senior Library Service Associate.
The SLSA works cooperatively with colleagues at the branch to ensure that the daily operational needs of the branch are met.
The Senior Library Service Associate may be required to assume temporary operational oversight of the assigned Branch in absence of the Manager, Branches.
