Description

The Ministry of Social Services is looking for dynamic individuals who are devoted to helping others and improving the lives and well-being of children and families to join our team as Child Protection Workers. In this role, you will provide a range of services designed to provide protective, preventative and support services to children and their families using The Family Centered Case Management Model of practice.

We recognize the importance employees place on having flexibility in their work and the balance between work and family.  We have the unique opportunity to offer candidates interested in working in our Sandy Bay and/or Creighton locations a drive in and drive out position, over a four (4) week average period. You will work 11-hour days (Monday through Saturday) with scheduled days off.

While on location, Child Protection Workers may also provide Emergency Duty Work in the evenings, when required. Additionally, the successful candidates may be compensated for travel time from their home location to Sandy Bay at the beginning and end of the rotation. Staff housing may also be provided.

In this position, you will:
- Be responsible for investigating allegations of neglect, physical or sexual abuse, assessing family functioning determining risk factors to the children's safety, implementing intervention plans and providing support services to the family, as required;
- When necessary, initiate Family Court proceedings and work through this process with the family;
- In cases where the children are admitted to the care of the Ministry, manage their needs including placement in foster and alternate resources, assessment and treatment planning to ensure that individual health, social psychological and educational needs are met in preparation to return home; and
- Necessitate and plan for children placed in care on a long-term basis. This process often includes working in cooperation with First Nation Child and Family Service agencies.
