Gateway Regional Victim Services - Permanent Assistant Coordinator

Job Summary:
    - Provides direct support to crime and trauma victims, witnesses and their families by providing crisis intervention, emotional support, information and referrals at the scene, in person visits or by phone
    - Provides victims of crime and trauma with connections to resources in the community such as counselling agencies, support groups, shelters and information about opportunities for financial assistance
- Works to assess each referral and apply the appropriate response within all relevant policies and procedures
- Ensures that victims of crime are given the opportunities to address the effects of the crimes committed against them
- Acts as facilitators and liaisons to help victims maneuver through the Criminal Justice System

Essential Duties:
    Meet clients in person at their homes, hospital, court house, detachment or other location in order to provide support
    Attend the scene of police crisis call-outs such as crimes, serious accidents, and sudden deaths.  Provides emotional support to distressed victims, witnesses, and family members; assists police with next of kin notifications in cases of sudden deaths; provides information regarding agencies available to victims; as appropriate, accompanies victims to hospital, contacts family members, arranges for or provides emergency transportation
    Contact victims or witnesses to offer emotional support, debriefing, referrals to resources and other practical assistance
    Establish/maintain client files, documenting all interactions and services provided
-Liaise with RCMP officers regarding client files as requires
- Keep clients informed of the status of their file or refers to RCMP members for further information or clarification
- Provide ongoing emotional support to victims of crime, trauma and family issues until victim services file is closed
- Provide court support to victims/witness of crime
