Description

The Canadian Light Source Inc. (CLSI) is a national research facility of the University of Saskatchewan. CLS produces very bright light to explore the nature and structure of molecules, and serves national and international users from academia, industry, and government institutions.

Responsibilities:
- Training and supporting users at the BioXAS-Imaging beamline to ensure that they are able to perform their scientific experiments in a safe and effective manner.
- Assisting users and other beamline staff in sample preparation and data processing.
- Aligning beamline optical components and setting up the endstation for users experiments.
- Analyzing and solving routine technical problems and developing recommendations to solve difficult, complex, or unusual problems.
- Preparing beamline documentation and ensuring designs conform to CLS standards, and other relevant codes, standards and practices.
- Will aid the Beamline Responsible in beamline upgrade/maintenance projects.
- Developing technical expertise in specific areas of beamline operation and equipment, either in hardware or software.
- Prepares beamline documentation and operational manuals.
- Working flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, is a requirement of the position.

Qualifications:
- For the Associate Scientist level, a relevant undergraduate or Masters degree is required. For the Scientist level, a relevant Masters degree or Ph.D. is required.
- A minimum of two years experience in X-ray Fluorescence Imaging with a Masters degree, or a minimum of one years of related experience with a Ph.D. degree.
- Experience with XFI and XAS is strongly preferred.
- A minimum of one-year experience in supporting users at a synchrotron facility is preferred, but not required.
- Experience with beamline micro-focusing optics would be an asset.
- Experience with hard X-ray fluorescence microtomography would be an asset.
- Basic programming skills in Python or C/C++ is an asset.
