Job Description: Reporting to the Manager of Primary Health, the Nurse Practitioner will: provides clinical support related to high risk behaviours of population; provides chronic disease management and treatment of common medical problems for people who have significant barriers to accessing health care; supports referrals to other health services as needed. Work reflects understanding of determinants of health that influence health in the core neighborhoods. Works with health care, community and intersectoral partners such as public health, EMS, Department of Social Work to improve the health of citizens in Saskatoon core neighborhoods. Has an increased understanding and sensitivity to aboriginal culture and effects on health care delivery. Demonstrates capacity to engage people in health enhancing education, activities and services. Has an in-depth understanding of addictions theory and intervention strategies especially those involving drugs, alcohol or tobacco, and has ability to implement smoking cessation interventions. Has an in-depth knowledge and skill in assessment, treatment and education related to sexual health.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor Degree/Diploma in Nursing
Basic Life Support (BLS)
Registered or eligible for registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS) as an RN (NP) or RN (GNP)
Valid Class 5 driver's license
Experience
Requires 3 years experience as a Registered Nurse, with a minimum of 1 year nursing experience in a Primary Health Care setting preferred. Requires 2 years full-time experience working in an advanced RN(NP) role, including community needs assessment, community development and health promotion.
