Duties
The Counsellor provides counselling, therapy, & related services to individuals, couples, families, & groups seeking assistance with personal/interpersonal problems, including Employee Family Assistance Program customers.  May also provide group therapy sessions & engage in community collaborations.

Duties include
Provide counselling, therapy & related services; experience providing counselling to children & families is an asset.  Must be qualified to provide counselling to EFAP customers
Determine needs & goals, & develop service plans that are tailored to each individual
Perform related admin & record keeping duties
Participate in clinical supervision
Perform work outside of regular operating hours
Others as assigned

Qualifications
Graduate degree in Social Work, Psychology, Educational Psychology or related discipline
5 yrs of supervised clinical experience
Eligible for registration with & maintain good standing in a relevant professional association

Areas of Knowledge
Theories/Practices of:
  o interviewing, assessment, & evaluation techniques
  o human development, behavior & change
  o communication & conflict resolution
  o trauma- & violence-informed approaches
Able to assess high-risk clients (suicidal) & intervene quickly/appropriately
Experience with evidence-based interventions for children & youth mental health & behavioral concerns
Able to recognize signs & symptoms of other mental health disorders & refer client to appropriate service providers
Awareness of & cultural sensitivity to the customs, traditions, spiritual beliefs & philosophy & perspective on family dynamics of Indigenous, immigrant, refugee, & newcomer populations
Experience in facilitating group work & knowledge of group dynamics
Able to deal with people experiencing difficult &/or unusual situations
