First Nations, Metis and Northern Affairs Division, Ministry of Government Relations
The position provides research, analyses, advice, and logistical support to create sustainable improvements for northern communities, particularly Indigenous residents. Located in La Ronge, Saskatchewan, the position advances socio-economic initiatives to build resilient northern communities. The work will commonly require collaboration with other government officials, the northern public and elected leaders, First Nations and Mtis partners, non-government organizations and key interest groups.
The position will support a wide variety of key files, ranging from human services initiatives, to traditional resources users such as trappers, to initiatives to build leadership skills and qualities among northern youth. In particular, the position will provide secretariat support for the Embracing Life Initiative to address youth suicide and community wellness in the north.
Typically, the knowledge, skills and abilities required to achieve the above is obtained through a degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience, in a relevant discipline, such administration, public policy, social development, or community planning. Valid experience and knowledge may include:
- Working with First Nations, Metis and northern communities, and knowledge of their cultures, political structures, challenges and opportunities.
- Building collaboration and effective working relationships.
- Ideally, development and evaluation of public policy.
- Ideally, provincial government structures and processes, and the legislation, policies and programs relevant to First Nations and Mtis people in the North.
- A valid Saskatchewan drivers license is required.
