The oskyak (Youth) Engagement Worker is responsible for implementing various programing directed by the Program Manager. The Engagement Worker will work with youth and young adults to provide quality programs to be developed to engage and empower the youth at Sturgeon Lake to have fun and be safe in a positive environment.
The main role of the Engagement Worker is to be a resource to the Nation. Most often, the Engagement Worker is a helper to Elders in ceremony and teachings, and is chosen by the Nation through its Knowledge Keepers and Spiritualists.
Essential Functions:
Work with local youth in planning a program, and coordinating and promoting youth and young adult, and family programming
Specific needs that will be addressed using a strength-based model include sense of belonging, unresolved grief, building strong healthy relationships within the family, personal health practices and coping skills, decision making, and problem solving
Cultural teachings and ceremonies, language classes, and proper protocols
Engage and empower youth to learn leadership through opportunities to foster development of strong self-esteem.
Work hands-on in the programs, activities, and special events as needed.
Provide quality interaction to members, volunteers, and participants.
Work with volunteers and staff and oversee daily operations of the project.
Requirements for Employment:
Clear criminal record check including vulnerable sector
First Aid and CPR certification
Reliable/dependable vehicle
